Town Hall Newsletters

Fountain City Town Hall is sponsoring the fundraising event in conjunction with the Legacy Parks Foundation with the ultimate goal of raising $130,000 for the Fountain City Skate Park to be located on Knox Rd. between Maple Dr. and N. Broadway. It will be a plaza-style skate park with two-levels, a small gazebo, parking, a bleacher, sidewalks, and landscaping.

The City of Knoxville is also seeking separate funding for an adjacent greenway, which will help to create new neighborhood park along First Creek that all Fountain Citians can be proud of and enjoy

The park will also serve skateboarders in the North Knoxville, Inskip, and Halls communities and will function as a satellite park to the regional Knoxville Skatepark being built within Tyson Park.
Fountain City Connections is an organization that has formed by a group of people who have come together for the purpose of making Fountain City a more pedestrian-friendly place.  Our specific focus is to promote the development of sidewalks and greenways, as well as educational programs which will draw the attention of both pedestrians and drivers to safe practices.  In short, we want safe places for people to walk and run, etc. for healthier, and ultimately, what we believe will be happier lives.

Fountain City Connections (initially the Fountain City Sidewalks and Greenways Task Force) originated at the pedestrian workshop (April 2006) from the challenge by noted pedestrian advocate Mark Fenton to "do something" to affect change in our community.

There is a desperate need for a public and legitimate place for skateboarders in Fountain City to practice their sport
Construction on the skate park is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2008 depending upon how quickly the needed funds can be raised.
Everyone in the community is asked to support this and other planned fundraising events.
Tax-deductible donations to the Fountain City Skate Park can be made directly to the Legacy Parks Foundation, 2447 Sutherland Ave., Knoxville, TN 37919. For additional information about the organization, go to
www.legacyparks.org or call 215-6612.
Please write "Fountain City Skate Park" in the memo section of your check.

The pedestrian audit and subsequent workshop opened our eyes to the challenges faced by pedestrians in our area, and further, to possible changes that could take place to make our community "walk-able."To date, FC Connections has worked with the City of Knoxville on identifying crosswalks on Broadway that needed striping or re-striping, and has been instrumental in getting several pedestrian pushbutton signals installed. While we specifically have in mind infrastructure changes in Fountain City in the near term, there is also a consensus to pursue long-run policy changes.  We would like all of Knoxville to be a safer, more pleasant place to live.
